Workplace Wisdom
Some of the unspoken rules that everyone must adhere to at workplace.
- Upskill yourself. Be humble and teachable. Know that you are not always right, and keep an open mind to learn from others in your team or organization.
- Network actively. Find yourselves among the company of those in your domain.
- If you are the smartest in the room, more often than not, you are in the wrong room. Growth happens when you are being pushed to improve.
- Don't criticize anyone. Provide constructive feedback when necessary.
- Soft skills matter. The way you communicate, how you dress, and the way you conduct yourself speaks volumes about yourself. Wearing flip-flops and sandals to work is a big no-no.
- Earn respect within the organization. Your integrity is valuable and recognized.
- Everyone is replacable. You are not indispensable to your project.
- Always help your colleagues once you are done with your assigned work. This will not only help others grow, you never know what you might learn from helping others.
- Be punctual and maintain discipline.
- Never ever use personal numbers or Whatsapp for business communication. Keep it simple and professional.
- Stay on a billable role. Those in non-billable roles are an easy target to be fired if the situation of layoffs arise.
- Your job is not permanent. This is a fact. You could be fired few times in your 30-40 year career. Don't get discouraged when you lose your job.
